Overview
VLC and Kodi are useful when you want IPTV on a computer or advanced media setup. They are not as simple as dedicated IPTV apps, but they are flexible.
Both tools are best used with M3U playlist details. Kodi can also handle EPG through its PVR IPTV Simple Client.
IPTV with VLC
Open VLC, choose Open Network Stream, paste the M3U URL, and press play. VLC is excellent for quickly testing whether a playlist URL works.
It is less convenient for browsing large channel lists, so it is better as a testing tool or lightweight desktop player.
IPTV with Kodi
In Kodi, enable the PVR IPTV Simple Client add-on, add the M3U playlist URL, add EPG details if supplied, and restart Kodi.
Kodi takes more setup time but gives a full TV section, guide layout, and remote-friendly media centre experience.
VLC vs Kodi
Choose VLC for quick playback and troubleshooting. Choose Kodi if you want a living-room interface, guide data, and more control.
For daily TV use on Fire Stick or Android TV, a dedicated IPTV app is usually easier than either VLC or Kodi.
Common Issues
If VLC opens but no channel plays, check the playlist URL and test another stream. If Kodi shows no guide, verify the EPG source and restart the PVR client.
Never share a playlist URL publicly, because it can expose your subscription details.
